Alex Borges is our bilingual Executive Director who provides translation and interpreting services alongside several bilingual volunteers. Alex coordinates the volunteers to translate for clients at appointments and to assist with reading documents, completing forms and applications as needed.
All of our clients have the option to meet with Alex Borges, our Executive Director. First come first serve case management is available by appointment or by stopping by the Casa office during business hours. During these meetings, Alex will speak with each client in order to understand their individual needs. Depending on the situation, Alex will either personally facilitate a solution or will refer the client to someone who can.
Casa de Amistad has contact information for numerous doctors, lawyers, clinics, and other local agencies. If we cannot personally offer a solution for a client need, our Executive Director will help connect the client with someone who can. To help foster self discipline and provide positive role models, for the past six years we have been able to provide scholarships for 8 to 12 Latino children to go to Clarke County summer camps through a special fund from First Presbyterian Church. For many of these children, it was their first summer camp experience. We have also arranged for our youth to attend karate classes held throughout Athens. Lastly, we refer people of all ages to a ballet folklorico dance group that teaches and performs locally.
