The ACLC serves as an umbrella organization for the literacy providers in the Athens community. We hope that you will explore this site to learn more about literacy issues in our community and perhaps find a way to get involved. We have many opportunities for you to help improve literacy in Athens-Clarke County, such as tutoring students, participating in our annual spelling bee, or making a donation. Thank you for visiting, and we hope to hear from you soon. The ACLC is a member of the statewide Certified Literate Community Program which is administered by the Technical College System of Georgia.
MISSION Community Connection strengthens people and organizations to better care for one another.
Today, Community Connection of Northeast Georgia serves our community in three primary ways:
GET HELP We connect individuals in the 14 county area to resources via our 2-1-1 Information and Referral Helpline which provides more than 30,000 referrals to the individuals in need of services each year.
GIVE HELP We connect thousands of interested citizens to volunteer opportunities in our community via our HandsOn Northeast Georgia program.
GROW HELP We connect organizations to resources (including each other) via our Non-Profit Development Alliance, which helps non-profit organizations receive the training, support and assistance they need while ‘incubating’ new programs to fill gaps in services.
At Goodwill, our mission is a simple one: we put people to work.
Every day, thousands of men and women face barriers that make it difficult for them to find work and earn a paycheck to support their families. Sometimes it’s lack of training or education, limited job skills, or a disability. But with the support of donors and shoppers like you, we overcome those barriers. Goodwill gives people the tools they need to find a job which allows them to support themselves and their families.
The Junior League of Athens is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
The Latin American and Caribbean region has had major social, cultural, political, and economic impact on the United States. This influence has increased exponentially over the last decade, especially in the state of Georgia. Establishing in-depth understandings of the region and its peoples, including those who have come to the United States from those regions and their descendants, has become crucially important in the state, and the challenge will likely grow in coming decades. LACSI’s primary mission is to address this need by promoting research, education, and service and outreach on Latin America, the Caribbean, and US Latinos.
