Casa de Amistad goes to Rincon, Puerto Rico!
Casa de Amistad has partnered with the Surfrider Foundation, local schools in Puerto Rico and other charity organizations, to provide the Athens community with volunteer opportunities in Puerto Rico!
From June 15, 2015-July 15, 2015 our volunteers will have hours of service in the areas of education, environmentalism, and animal rescue, among other projects.
This service initiative abroad is called One Planet and it aims to provide volunteer opportunities in different areas around the globe! We start our pilot program in Puerto Rico and we will expand to other countries including Ecuador, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Indonesia.
How does One Planet works?

Your volunteer fee includes transportation to and from the airport, two meals a day (breakfast and dinner), a place to stay only one block away from the beach (with a private pool, internet access, washer/dryer and AC), AND an a memorable experience serving the local community in Rincon, Puerto Rico.
At the end of your experience you will receive a certificate of completion indicating how many hours you volunteered and the agency you volunteered for (for example the Surfrider Foundation and Casa de Amistad)

About Puerto Rico…
Puerto Rico is only about a 3 1/2 hour flight from Atlanta. US currency is used and no passport is required to travel there. Your cellphone will work just fine too. It will be as convenient as traveling to another state and you still get immersed in the Latin American and Caribbean culture. Some of the things you can do while in Puerto Rico include: a visit to old San Juan, glowing in the bioluminescent waters of La Parguera, walk the trails in El Yunque (the only rainforest in the US), and relax at the beach.
