At our Holiday Open House, Casa de Amistad’s families receive a food basket with staple food items. Local churches have generously supported this program by contributing baskets, but we always welcome the donations of individuals, families and/or groups . If you would like to sponsor a family by preparing a holiday food basket, contact Alex Borges at 706-206-2087 or athensamistad@gmail.com. Donated baskets may be taken directly to Casa de Amistad. Below is a lift of suggested items for the baskets:
- 5 lbs. of rice
- 2 lb. bag of dried pinto beans
- Canned jalapeños
- Chili peppers (e.g., dried Red New Mexico pods)
- Cooking oil
- Mole (brown sauce for the meat)
- Masa (flour for making tortillas)
- Bag of Onions
- Adobo powder (similar to garlic salt) in spice area or fresh garlic
- Canned tomatoes
- Bag of cookies or cake
- A gift certificate from Los Compadres or Walmart for $10.00 or $15.00
